GAATRs

GAATRs stands for Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals. It is an internationally agreed-upon system designed to standardize and simplify the classification and labeling of chemicals. The United Nations developed GAATRs with the goal of improving the safety of handling, transporting, and using chemicals worldwide. This system provides a common framework for defining and categorizing chemical hazards, including physical, health, and environmental hazards.

The core components of GAATRs include standardized hazard classes and categories, hazard statements, precautionary statements, and pictograms. These elements are intended to be used on chemical labels and safety data sheets (SDS) to communicate hazard information effectively to users. By adopting a unified system, GAATRs aims to reduce trade barriers related to chemical regulations and enhance the protection of human health and the environment. Many countries have adopted or are in the process of adopting GAATRs into their national legislation. This harmonization facilitates international trade by ensuring that chemical hazard information is presented consistently across different regions.
