Förlustfritt is a Swedish adjective that translates to "lossless" in English. It is commonly used in contexts related to data compression, audio and video quality, and other technical fields where preserving the original information is paramount.

In digital audio, for instance, a förlustfritt audio format means that no audio information is discarded during the encoding process. This is in contrast to lossy formats, which achieve smaller file sizes by permanently removing certain audio data deemed less perceptible to the human ear. Examples of förlustfritt audio formats include FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) and ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec).

Similarly, in data compression, förlustfritt algorithms aim to reduce file size without losing any of the original data. When a compressed file is decompressed using a förlustfritt method, it is an exact replica of the original. Common förlustfritt compression formats include ZIP and PNG (for images).
