Fördelningsskåp

A fördelningsskåp, often translated as distribution board or electrical panel, is a central component of an electrical installation. Its primary function is to distribute electricity from the main supply to various circuits within a building or structure. This distribution is managed through a system of circuit breakers or fuses, which also serve as protective devices.

When an electrical fault occurs, such as an overload or a short circuit, the circuit breaker or fuse associated with that specific circuit will automatically trip or blow, interrupting the flow of electricity. This prevents damage to electrical equipment and, more importantly, reduces the risk of fire or electric shock.

Fördelningsskåp are typically located in a readily accessible place, such as a utility room, basement, or hallway, to allow for easy access in case of an emergency or for routine maintenance. They contain terminals for connecting incoming power cables and outgoing cables that supply power to different areas or appliances. The design and size of a fördelningsskåp vary depending on the complexity and power requirements of the electrical system it serves. Modern installations often feature sophisticated fördelningsskåp with features like residual current devices (RCDs) for enhanced safety.
