Földrengésveszélyelemzés, or seismic hazard analysis, is the process of estimating the potential for damaging earthquakes in a specific region. It involves evaluating the probability of earthquakes of certain magnitudes occurring within a given timeframe and assessing the intensity of ground shaking that these earthquakes might produce. This analysis is crucial for earthquake-resistant design, urban planning, and emergency preparedness.

The primary components of seismic hazard analysis include identifying and characterizing seismic sources, such as active faults, and estimating the rate at which they produce earthquakes. This often involves studying historical earthquake records, geological evidence of past seismic activity, and the tectonic setting of the region. Ground motion prediction equations, which relate earthquake magnitude and distance to the expected intensity of shaking (e.g., peak ground acceleration), are then used to estimate the potential ground motion at a site.

Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) is a common approach that quantifies the likelihood of exceeding a certain level of ground shaking. It considers all possible earthquake sources and their associated uncertainties to provide a comprehensive assessment. Deterministic seismic hazard analysis (DSHA) is another method, which focuses on the hazard from the largest credible earthquake on a specific fault.
