Fußballbund

FußballBund is the national governing body for football in a German-speaking country. It oversees governance, organization and development of football at all levels, from grassroots clubs to professional teams. The federation administers the national league system and the national cup, licenses clubs and stadiums, and implements coaching and refereeing education programs. It coordinates player development initiatives, youth academies, and safety standards for competitions. Internationally, FußballBund represents the sport in national policy discussions and is a member of UEFA and FIFA through its umbrella association.

Founded in the early 20th century, the FußballBund grew from regional associations into a central governing body. It has modernized with the sport, expanding women's and youth programs, expanding digital administration, and establishing ethical guidelines to address integrity and governance challenges.

The organization is led by a president and an elected council, with standing committees for competitions, finance, development, refereeing, and ethics. Decision-making is guided by a code of regulations, and annual congresses set policy and oversee audits. The federation collaborates with clubs, schools and municipalities to promote participation and improve facilities.

It operates the top men’s and women’s leagues, domestic cup competitions, and a nationwide youth framework. It selects and supports the national teams, including men’s, women’s and youth squads, which compete in international qualifiers and championships, and it maintains pathways for coaching, refereeing, medical and sport science personnel.
