Frontabschnitt

Frontabschnitt is a German term that literally means "front section" or "front segment." The term is used in several specialized fields to denote the part of a larger object or area that lies at the front and is distinct from rear or side parts.

In military geography and historical Wehrmacht-era documentation, a Frontabschnitt designates a defined sector of the front line. It represents the smallest operationally meaningful portion of the front assigned to a unit or formation for purposes of defense, maneuver, and reporting. Frontabschnitte are bounded by terrain features or grid coordinates and can be shifted as operations unfold. Commands, reconnaissance, and logistics are often organized by Frontabschnitt to coordinate actions across adjacent units.

In architecture and urban planning, Frontabschnitt refers to the front façade or exterior portion of a building facing the street or public space. In plans and specifications, the term helps distinguish the front section from side and rear sections during design, construction, and restoration work.
