Frettingkopás

Frettingkopás is a wear phenomenon that occurs when two surfaces in contact experience small, repetitive relative movements, known as fretting. This motion, often occurring under load, leads to the gradual removal of material from one or both surfaces. The process is characterized by the formation of wear debris, which can accumulate in the contact area. The nature of this debris, whether it is a loose powder or a compacted oxide layer, depends on the materials involved and the environmental conditions, particularly the presence of oxygen.

The mechanism of frettingkopás is complex and involves a combination of adhesion, abrasion, and oxidation. Initially, microscopic asperities on the surfaces come into contact and adhere. As the surfaces slide, these adhesions are broken, leading to material transfer and the generation of wear particles. In the presence of oxygen, these particles can oxidize, forming hard abrasive oxides that further accelerate the wear process. This abrasive action can lead to significant surface damage and degradation of the component's performance.

It can lead to increased electrical resistance, loss of preload in bolted connections, and premature failure of components. Understanding the factors that contribute to frettingkopás, such as contact pressure, amplitude and frequency of oscillation, surface material properties, and environmental factors, is crucial for designing components that are resistant to this type of wear.
