Frederiksborggade

Frederiksborggade is a prominent street located in the central district of Copenhagen, Denmark. Running parallel to the waterfront along the Øresund, it stretches from the historic area of Nyhavn to the Frederiksberg district, connecting several key neighborhoods including Indre By (Inner City) and Østerbro.

The street is named after King Frederik V (1723–1766), who played a significant role in the expansion and development of Copenhagen during the 18th century. Frederiksborggade was laid out in the mid-18th century as part of the city’s planned urban growth, reflecting the Baroque architectural style of the era. Many of the buildings along the street feature classical facades, though some have been modernized over time.

Frederiksborggade is known for its mix of residential, commercial, and cultural landmarks. Notable structures include the Royal Danish Playhouse (Det Kongelige Teater), a historic theater founded in 1748, and the former Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, which now houses the Academy’s facilities. The street also passes near the iconic Nyhavn harbor, a popular tourist destination, and is close to the Royal Palace of Frederiksborg, though the palace itself is located in Hillerød, not along the street.

The area surrounding Frederiksborggade is well-connected, with easy access to public transportation, including tram lines and bus routes.
