Fplasmidmedierad refers to a process in bacterial genetics where genetic material is transferred between bacteria via conjugation, specifically utilizing the F plasmid. The F plasmid, also known as the fertility factor, is a self-transmissible episome that carries genes essential for its own replication and for the formation of a pilus, a structure that facilitates cell-to-cell contact. When a bacterium possesses the F plasmid, it is designated as an F+ cell. An F- cell, lacking the F plasmid, can receive genetic material from an F+ cell.
