Fotónyomatok, also known as photographic prints, are the physical results of a photographic process. Historically, this involved exposing a light-sensitive material, such as paper coated with silver halide crystals, to an image projected by a camera or enlarger. The exposed material undergoes a chemical development process, which renders the latent image visible and permanent. Different photographic processes yield distinct types of prints, each with unique characteristics in terms of tonality, color, and durability. Common historical processes include silver gelatin prints, platinum prints, and albumen prints. Modern digital photography typically results in prints made from inkjets or dye-sublimation, though the fundamental principle of creating a visible image on a physical medium remains. The quality of a fotónyomat is influenced by factors such as the original negative or digital file, the printing paper, the chemicals used, and the skill of the printer.
