Fosforestsents

Fosforestsents are a theoretical class of organic molecules that have been proposed to exhibit enhanced phosphorescence properties. Phosphorescence is a type of photoluminescence where light energy is absorbed by a molecule and then re-emitted slowly over time. This process is distinct from fluorescence, which involves a much faster emission of light. Fosforestsents are hypothesized to achieve this extended emission through specific structural features that promote intersystem crossing, the process by which a molecule transitions from an excited singlet state to an excited triplet state, which is responsible for phosphorescence.

This coupling is a relativistic effect that increases the probability of intersystem crossing. Researchers are exploring various molecular architectures, including those with conjugated pi systems and electron-donating or electron-withdrawing substituents, to fine-tune the electronic properties and emission characteristics of these hypothetical molecules.
