Formaliinia
Formaliinia, commonly referred to as formalin, is an aqueous solution of formaldehyde gas. Commercial preparations typically contain about 37% formaldehyde by weight and are stabilized with methanol to prevent polymerization. The solution is colorless, has a strong, pungent odor, and is miscible with water. The active ingredient is formaldehyde (CH2O), and the solution may include buffering agents or stabilizers to maintain stability.
Formaliinia is widely used in biomedical and scientific settings as a fixative and preservative. In histology
Safety and health considerations are prominent for formaliinia. Formaldehyde is toxic and a known irritant; exposure
Storage and disposal require care. Formaliinia should be kept in tightly closed, clearly labeled containers, away
