Fooritulesid, commonly known as traffic lights, are signaling devices positioned at road intersections, pedestrian crossings, and other locations to control competing flows of traffic. They typically consist of three lenses, displaying red, yellow, and green lights. The red light indicates that vehicles must stop before the intersection. The yellow light serves as a warning, indicating that the light is about to turn red and drivers should prepare to stop if it is safe to do so. The green light signifies that vehicles may proceed through the intersection, provided it is safe.

The purpose of traffic lights is to improve the safety of road users by preventing collisions at intersections and to manage traffic flow efficiently, reducing congestion and delays. They are operated by a control system, which can be fixed-time, meaning the lights cycle through their sequence at predetermined intervals, or adaptive, meaning the timing of the lights adjusts based on real-time traffic conditions detected by sensors.

Pedestrian crossings often incorporate separate signals for pedestrians, typically displaying a walking person symbol for "walk" and a hand symbol for "don't walk" or "wait." Some modern traffic light systems also include countdown timers for pedestrian crossings, indicating the remaining time to cross the street. The widespread adoption of traffic lights has significantly contributed to the orderliness and safety of modern transportation networks worldwide.
