Foderslag

Foderslag is a term found in some Scandinavian agricultural writings, usually understood as a label for a category of fodder. The expression translates roughly to “type of fodder” or “kind of feed,” though it is relatively uncommon in modern standard usage. More common terms in contemporary Swedish and Norwegian farm language are fodertyp or foderart.

Etymology and sense: The word is a compound of foder, meaning livestock feed, and slag, here used in the sense of kind, type, or category. In this sense, foderslag does not refer to a specific ingredient, but to a classification of feeds used for animals. The concept can appear in historical farm records, inventories, or dialect writings where rations are organized by category.

Usage: In practice, foderslag might appear in old accounting ledgers or agricultural manuals to designate groups such as hay-based fodder, silage-based fodder, grain-based fodder, or mixed feeds. Its usage tends to be niche and largely superseded by more precise terms like fodertyp or foderart in contemporary materials. When encountered, foderslag functions as a bookkeeping or planning label rather than a nutrient specification.
