Fjármunar

Fjármunar is an Icelandic term that denotes financial resources or funds available to an individual, company, or public entity. It encompasses monetary assets that can be allocated for spending or investment, such as cash, deposits, marketable securities, receivables, and other liquid or near-liquid assets.

The concept is commonly used in personal finance, corporate finance, and public finance to describe the pool of funds that can be used for operations, capital expenditure, debt service, or investments. Organizations seek to increase their fjármunar through various means, including equity financing, loans, grants, or growth-revenue generation; the process of obtaining funds is often referred to as öflun fjármunar or funding.

A related distinction exists between fjármunir and fjármagn. While both refer to financial resources, fjármunir emphasizes available resources specifically for spending or investment, whereas fjármagn often denotes broader capital stock or financial capital used in production and longer-term planning. In technical contexts, the two terms can carry different nuances, but in everyday language they are frequently used interchangeably.
