Finishedready

Finishedready is a term used in some project management and production workflows to describe an item that has both been finished and is ready for the next stage. It is not a formal industry standard but a team-level convention or descriptor.

The concept combines two common states: finished (the work has been implemented or completed) and ready (the item can be handed off, released, or deployed without further work). In practice, it may appear as a single state in boards that track work items.

Typical criteria for finishedready include: functionality implemented; unit and integration tests passing; code review completed; no critical defects; documentation updated; release notes drafted; environment prepared; dependencies resolved; data migrations defined; security and compliance checks completed; product owner or stakeholder approval.

Organizations use finishedready to streamline handoffs and reduce ambiguity between completion and readiness. It can improve predictability for releases and align teams around a shared definition.

However, the term can cause confusion if not defined clearly; it may duplicate existing DoR/DoD concepts and blur responsibility. Clear, documented criteria are essential to avoid misinterpretation across teams.
