Finantseerija

Finantseerija is the Estonian term for a person or organization that provides capital for a project, business, or other activity. A finantseerija can provide money directly or arrange capital through various instruments. The aim is to enable the financed entity to carry out its activities, and the financier typically seeks a return or equity stake commensurate with risk. The term derives from the Estonian verb finantseerima.

Finantseerijad can be private or public. Private financiers include banks, credit institutions, angel investors and venture capital firms, as well as private equity funds. Public financiers include government agencies, development banks, regional funds, and grant-making bodies. Other sources include crowdfunding platforms and non-profit funds.

Financing can be granted as debt (loans, lines of credit, bonds), equity (shares, venture investments), or mixed instruments (convertible loans, mezzanine financing). Terms vary: interest, fees, repayment schedule, covenants, collateral requirements. Due diligence and credit assessment are common. In exchange, financiers may require governance rights, performance milestones, or collateral.
