Filmkészítés is the Hungarian term for filmmaking or the process of creating films. It encompasses all stages from the initial concept and scriptwriting to the final editing and distribution of a movie. The industry in Hungary has a long and rich history, contributing significantly to both Hungarian and international cinema.

The pre-production phase involves developing the script, securing financing, casting actors, and planning the logistics of the shoot. This includes location scouting, storyboarding, and assembling the production crew. Production itself is the actual filming of the movie, where directors work with actors and cinematographers to capture the visual and auditory elements of the story. Post-production is where the raw footage is transformed into a finished film. This includes editing the scenes, adding visual effects, sound design, music scoring, and color correction.

Hungarian filmmakers have been recognized for their artistic vision and technical skill. The country boasts numerous film schools and a vibrant independent film scene alongside larger studio productions. Major film studios and production companies operate within Hungary, attracting international projects due to skilled professionals and competitive costs. The Hungarian film industry continues to evolve, embracing new technologies and storytelling techniques while drawing inspiration from its cultural heritage.
