Fertilizantët, commonly known as fertilizers, are substances that supply nutrients essential for plant growth. These nutrients are typically provided in the form of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which are the macronutrients most often depleted from the soil. Fertilizers can also contain secondary nutrients like calcium, magnesium, and sulfur, as well as micronutrients such as iron, manganese, zinc, copper, boron, and molybdenum.

There are two primary categories of fertilizers: organic and inorganic. Organic fertilizers are derived from natural sources such as animal manure, compost, and plant residues. They improve soil structure and provide nutrients gradually as they decompose. Inorganic fertilizers, also called synthetic fertilizers, are manufactured through industrial processes. They are often more concentrated and provide nutrients in readily available forms for plant uptake.

The application of fertilizers is a widespread practice in agriculture and horticulture to enhance crop yields and improve plant health. However, overuse or improper application can lead to environmental issues, including water pollution from nutrient runoff and imbalances in soil ecosystems. Therefore, understanding soil needs and applying fertilizers judiciously is crucial for sustainable plant cultivation and environmental protection.
