FertigungsOPCUA is a term used in German-speaking manufacturing contexts to describe the application of OPC UA standards in production environments. It refers to the deployment of open, interoperable data communication across shop floor devices, control systems, and enterprise software to enable real-time information exchange and service-oriented manufacturing.

The scope includes machine-to-machine and machine-to-application communication, integrating PLCs, robots, MES, ERP, historians, and analytics platforms. It supports standardized information models for production orders, equipment, materials, process parameters, quality data, and workflow status, enabling consistent data interpretation across vendors and systems.

Technical architecture typically involves OPC UA servers running on machines or gateways and OPC UA clients on MES, SCADA, or cloud services. Communication can use UA Binary over TCP or UA over WebSocket, with security features such as authentication, authorization, encryption, and auditing. Optional PubSub supports scalable IoT messaging, and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) can improve determinism in factory networks.

Information models and standards rely on OPC UA information modeling and domain-specific companion specifications to represent concepts like work orders, production lines, machine states, runs, and quality measurements. This modeling approach supports traceability, analytics, and digital twin concepts, while promoting data consistency across systems.

Benefits include vendor-neutral interoperability, improved data availability, enhanced traceability, and easier integration of analytics and digital twins. Challenges encompass initial implementation complexity, data governance, cybersecurity, and the need for ongoing model maintenance and governance in evolving production environments.

Common applications cover monitoring and control of production lines, quality management, predictive maintenance, and production optimization, aligning with Industry 4.0 goals for digital factories and cross-system interoperability.
