Fermi-Dirac-Bose Einstein statistics, or more broadly fermion-boson statistics, are statistical models used to describe the behavior of particles in quantum mechanics. The distinction between fermions and bosons lies in their spin statistics.

Fermions, named after physicist Enrico Fermi, are particles with half-integer spin that obey Fermi-Dirac statistics. In this model, particles occupy all possible states up to a certain energy level before any can be occupied by another particle of the same type. This results in the Pauli exclusion principle, where no two identical fermions can occupy the same quantum state simultaneously. Examples of fermions include electrons and quarks.

Conversely, bosons, named after Indian physicist Satyendra Nath Bose, are particles with integer spin that obey Bose-Einstein statistics. In this model, any number of bosons can occupy the same quantum state simultaneously. Notably, bosons require a process known as Bose-Einstein condensation to occur, where the temperature of the system drops to a critical point, after which a large number of bosons start occupying the same quantum state. Examples of bosons include photons and helium-4.
