Fenolftaleiininen is widely recognized for its distinct color change in different pH environments. In acidic solutions, meaning solutions with a pH below 8.2, fenolftaleiininen is colorless. However, as the solution becomes alkaline, or basic, with a pH above approximately 8.2, fenolftaleiininen undergoes a transformation and turns a vibrant pink or fuchsia color. This color change is reversible; if the solution is then acidified, the pink color will disappear, and the indicator will become colorless again.
