Fembandskod

Fembandskod is a Swedish term that translates to "five-band code" and refers to a system used to identify the value of resistors. It is a visual method where colored bands are printed on the body of a resistor, and the color of each band corresponds to a specific number, multiplier, or tolerance.

Typically, the first two bands represent the significant digits of the resistance value, while the third band indicates the multiplier, which is a power of ten. The fourth band denotes the tolerance, specifying how much the actual resistance can deviate from the marked value. Some resistors might have a fifth band, which often indicates reliability or temperature coefficient, though this is less common in standard five-band codes.

The color sequence follows a standardized chart. For example, black represents zero, brown represents one, red represents two, orange three, yellow four, green five, blue six, violet seven, gray eight, and white nine. Multipliers also follow this color scheme, with black meaning x1, brown x10, red x100, and so on. Tolerance colors include gold for ±5% and silver for ±10%. The five-band code offers a more precise resistance value and tighter tolerance compared to the four-band code. This system is widely used in electronics for component identification and selection.
