Fearscaling

Fearscaling is a term used to describe the act of exaggerating or amplifying fears, often to manipulate or control others. It involves taking a perceived threat, however small, and magnifying it through rhetoric, storytelling, or the selective presentation of information to create a sense of urgency or panic. This can be done by individuals, groups, or even media outlets.

The purpose of fearscaling can vary. It might be employed to gain political advantage, sell products, or simply to exert influence within a social group. By making a situation seem more dangerous or threatening than it actually is, those engaging in fearscaling aim to elicit strong emotional responses, such as anxiety, anger, or outrage, which can then be channeled to achieve specific goals.
