FeZn7
FeZn7 is a chemical compound that can be formed during the galvanization process. Galvanization involves coating steel with a layer of zinc to protect it from corrosion. When steel and molten zinc are in contact at elevated temperatures, intermetallic phases can form between the iron and zinc. FeZn7 is one such intermetallic phase. It is characterized by a specific crystal structure and composition, with approximately 86% zinc and 14% iron by weight.
The formation of FeZn7 occurs in layers beneath the outer zinc coating on galvanized steel. Its presence
