FcRL6

FcRL6, also known as Fc receptor-like 6, is a transmembrane protein that belongs to the Fc receptor-like (FcRL) family. These receptors are structurally similar to classical Fc receptors, which bind to the Fc region of antibodies, but they do not appear to mediate antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity or phagocytosis. Instead, FcRLs are thought to play regulatory roles in immune responses, particularly in B cell development and function.

FcRL6 is primarily expressed on B lymphocytes, with its expression levels varying during different stages of B cell differentiation. It has been observed on mature B cells, germinal center B cells, and memory B cells. The specific signaling pathways activated by FcRL6 engagement are still under investigation, but it is believed to interact with other signaling molecules within the B cell to modulate its activation, proliferation, and antibody production.

Research into FcRL6's precise function is ongoing. Studies suggest it may play a role in fine-tuning B cell responses, potentially acting as an inhibitory receptor in certain contexts or as a co-stimulatory molecule in others. Its involvement in autoimmune diseases and lymphomas is also being explored, hinting at potential therapeutic targets. The absence or dysregulation of FcRL6 expression could have implications for immune homeostasis and disease susceptibility.
