Farsímakort

Farsímakort, also known as a SIM card (Subscriber Identity Module), is a small, portable integrated circuit that securely stores the international mobile subscriber identity and its related key, used to identify and authenticate subscribers on mobile telephony devices. It allows a mobile phone to connect to a network and operate as a telephone.

These cards are essential for accessing cellular services, enabling users to make calls, send text messages, and use mobile data. Each farsímakort is unique to a specific subscriber and is linked to a mobile network operator. When a device is turned on, it communicates with the network using the information stored on the farsímakort to verify the user's identity and grant access.

Farsímakort come in various sizes, with the most common being standard SIM, micro-SIM, and nano-SIM. The evolution in size has been driven by the miniaturization of mobile devices. Some farsímakort can store contact information and SMS messages, though this functionality is less commonly used with the advent of cloud-based storage and advanced smartphone features.

In addition to physical farsímakort, eSIM (embedded SIM) technology is becoming increasingly prevalent. An eSIM is a digital SIM that is embedded directly into a device and can be activated remotely by a network operator. This eliminates the need for a physical card. Farsímakort are a fundamental component of mobile communication technology, facilitating secure and personalized access to cellular networks worldwide.
