Farbuits

Farbuits are a fictional group of small, burrowing herbivorous mammals introduced in collaborative worldbuilding and speculative fiction projects. They are depicted as endemic to the upland regions of a fictional continent called Quorra and to associated island archipelagoes.

Etymology and classification: The name Farbuits appears in the in-universe lore as a compound derived from a local term and a descriptive English element. In the taxonomy of the setting, Farbuits are placed in the order Lagomorpha, family Farbuitidae, with the sole genus Farbuitus and several species.

Description: Adults range from 20 to 25 cm in body length, with tails about 8–12 cm. They weigh roughly 0.3 to 0.6 kg. Fur is variable, typically pale straw to slate gray. They have large ears, stout forelimbs, and strong digging claws.

Distribution and ecology: Farbuits inhabit alpine meadows, subalpine shrublands, and networked burrow systems across the Quorra highlands. They feed mainly on grasses and herbaceous plants, supplementing with seeds and fungi taken opportunistically.

Behavior and reproduction: They are crepuscular, live in small family groups, and construct extended burrow networks. Breeding is seasonal, with litters of two to four young; gestation around 28–32 days. Juveniles become independent after six to eight weeks.

In fiction and culture: Farbuits feature in regional folklore and ecological lore within the setting. They are commonly depicted as shy but curious and are used to explore themes of habitat fragility. In most narratives, their populations are stable, though some storylines dramatize habitat disruption.
