Fackliga

Facklig is a Swedish adjective relating to labor unions and the labor movement. It derives from fackförening, the organization that represents workers in negotiations with employers. The word is used to describe people (facklig företrädare, union representatives), activities (facklig verksamhet, union work), and issues (fackliga frågor, union matters) connected with trade unions and collective bargaining.

In everyday usage, facklig describes aspects of workplace representation and rights, such as facklig representation in personnel matters, facklig information to members, and fackliga förhandlingar between unions and employers. It is commonly paired with terms like facklig ledning, facklig aktivitet, or fackligt arbete.

In Sweden, trade unions and their representatives play a central role in the labor market. Many workplaces involve fackliga företrädare who negotiate terms through kollektivavtal (collective agreements) with employers. Fackliga frågor are addressed within the framework of arbetsrätt (labor law) and the regulatory environment. Membership in fackföreningar is voluntary, and unions operate alongside employers’ organizations and public policy.
