FMNL2

FMNL2, also known as formin-like protein 2, is a protein encoded by the FMNL2 gene in humans. It belongs to the formin family of proteins, which are characterized by a conserved DAD (formin homology 2 domain) and FH2 (formin homology 2) domain. These proteins play crucial roles in regulating actin cytoskeleton dynamics, which are essential for various cellular processes.

FMNL2 is particularly involved in cell migration, adhesion, and cytokinesis. It interacts with actin monomers and filaments, promoting their polymerization and stabilizing newly formed actin structures. This function is critical for the formation of filopodia and lamellipodia, which are cellular protrusions that drive cell movement. Additionally, FMNL2 has been implicated in the formation of the contractile ring during cell division, ensuring proper segregation of chromosomes and cell splitting.

Research suggests that FMNL2 may also have roles in other cellular processes, including cell polarity and mechanotransduction.
