EØSregelverkene

The EØSregelverkene, or EEA Agreement regulations, are the body of legal acts that apply to the European Economic Area. This agreement extends the European Union's internal market to three of the four European Free Trade Association (EFTA) states: Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Switzerland, an EFTA member, is not part of the EEA and thus not bound by these regulations.

The EØSregelverkene essentially transpose relevant EU internal market legislation into the legal frameworks of Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. This ensures a level playing field and free movement of goods, services, capital, and persons across the participating countries. The regulations cover a vast array of areas, including competition law, environmental protection, consumer rights, social policy, and research and development.

The implementation and enforcement of these regulations are managed by the EFTA Surveillance Authority, which acts as an independent body akin to the European Commission. The EFTA Court adjudicates disputes related to the EEA Agreement. For the EEA member states, adopting and adhering to these regulations is a prerequisite for accessing the EU's single market. They do not, however, participate in EU foreign policy or justice and home affairs matters. The EØSregelverkene are subject to ongoing updates as the EU's internal market legislation evolves.
