Exempelvis

Exempelvis is a Swedish adverb meaning “for example” or “for instance.” It is used to introduce examples or illustrations within a sentence. The term is a compound of exempel (example) and vis (in the manner of), with the suffix -vis forming an adverb that signals a representative or illustrative case.

In usage, exempelvis is common in written Swedish and in formal or informational contexts, though it also appears in spoken language. It can start a sentence or appear mid-sentence to introduce one or more examples. For example: “Flera länder har inför reformer, exempelvis Sverige och Norge.” Another common construction is “Exempelvis kan man se…,” introducing a demonstration or observation.

Equivalent expressions in Swedish include till exempel and som exempel, with till exempel being the more everyday alternative. In other languages, common equivalents are for example or beispielsweise in German, and for eksempel in Danish and Norwegian (though eksempler can also appear in Norwegian).
