Exchangesagainst is a term encountered in financial discourse to describe the practice or mechanism of valuing or trading one asset by exchanging it against another asset. The term is constructed as a compound used in informal documentation and in some exchange interfaces to indicate the reference asset used in a price quote or trade.

In practice, prices on trading platforms are quoted as a quantity of the counter asset per unit of the base asset, or as a ratio between two assets. The phrase exchangesagainst may appear in logs or API responses to denote the asset against which prices are measured—for example, “ETH exchangesagainst USD” or “BTC exchangesagainst USDT.” It is related to, but distinct from, the broader concept of an exchange rate or a currency pair.
