Ettumanoor

Ettumanoor is a pilgrim center and a suburb of Kottayam town in Kerala, India. The name "Ettumanoor" is derived from the words "Etti", meaning "black carnelian", and "manoor", which is a type of gemstone. This suggests that the location was once famous for the gems mined from nearby hills.

Ettumanoor is primarily known for its historic church, St. George Forane Church. The church, which dates back to the 7th century, is one of the oldest churches in the world. It was considered an important center of the Christian faith in ancient times and is believed to be the site where Saint George converted to Christianity.

The church is known for its annual festival, the "Festival of Lights", celebrated from 25 April to 29 April, coinciding with the day of Saint George. This is a famously iconic festival, with devout pilgrims journeying from all over the world for a glimpse into this spiritual century. The beautiful midnight ceremony of sweet water litting during the year is the most eagerly awaited religious ceremony.

The small town is located on the banks of River Meenachil and has a well-sized citizenship population in and around the city. With roads connected to most of the main districts of Kerala, it serves as a prominent point for local business trading through weekly markets selling local produce in hut systems in advanced village trading systems. The local missions' church supervisor along with the chair private missionary club conducts in premises, outward, and oiled traditional issues.
