Etherscan

Etherscan is a blockchain explorer and analytics platform for the Ethereum blockchain. It indexes publicly available blockchain data and provides a searchable interface for users to view transactions, addresses, blocks, and contract activity. By consolidating data from the Ethereum network, Etherscan enables transparency and accountability for on-chain activity.

Users can search by address, transaction hash, block number, or token symbol. Each address page shows balance, token holdings, and a chronological list of transfers. Transaction pages summarize value, sender and recipient, gas details, status, and input data. Block pages show the block height, timestamp, miner, and contained transactions. Token trackers display ERC-20 and ERC-721 tokens, with holder counts and transfer histories. Smart contract pages offer verified source code, ABI, and an interface to read or write functions (where available).

Etherscan provides developer tools and data access through an API, allowing programs to fetch blocks, transactions, account histories, token metadata, and event logs. The API includes free and paid tiers and is supported by documentation and example queries.

Beyond research and auditing, Etherscan is used to monitor gas prices, track token distributions, and investigate suspicious activity. It focuses on Ethereum mainnet, with support for several test networks, and is complemented by related services for other networks under the same organization. Etherscan is widely used by developers, researchers, and users as a central resource for on-chain data and contract verification.
