Each category offers different performance characteristics, including higher data transfer speeds and improved bandwidth. For instance, Cat5e supports speeds up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps), while Cat6a can handle 10 Gbps. The maximum length for most standard Ethernet cables is typically 100 meters, beyond which signal degradation can occur.

Ethernet cables utilize standardized connectors, most commonly the RJ45 connector, which has eight pins that mate with corresponding ports on network devices. The wiring within the cable follows specific standards, such as TIA/EIA-568A or TIA/EIA-568B, ensuring correct connectivity. While wireless networks have become prevalent, Ethernet cables continue to be favored for their reliability, speed, and security in scenarios requiring stable and high-performance network access.
