Estuvimos

Estuvimos is the first-person plural form of the preterite indicative of the Spanish verb estar. It is used to express a state or situation in the past that is presented as completed or as part of a specific past moment. The form comes from an irregular preterite stem estuv-, which appears in all the preterite forms of estar (estuve, estuviste, estuvo, estuvimos, estuvieron). The corresponding past participle of estar is estado, used in perfect tenses such as hemos estado.

In usage, estuvis is commonly employed to indicate location, condition, or ongoing action within a clearly bounded past timeframe. For example: Estuvimos en Madrid la semana pasada (We were in Madrid last week). It can also accompany progressive constructions with the verb haber or with estar + gerund to describe completed episodes or periods, such as Estuvimos esperando toda la tarde (We were waiting all afternoon).

Estuvimos is often contrasted with the imperfect form estábamos. While estuviéramos/estábamos appears in settings that describe habitual, background, or ongoing past situations, estuve/estuviste/estuvo/estuvimos emphasize a definite point or span in the past that is treated as finished. The form is widely used across Spanish-speaking regions and is a standard component of narrative past syntax in contemporary Spanish.
