Erpatogeene

Erpatogeene is a genus of extinct moths in the family Pterophoridae. The name "erpatogeene" comes from the Greek words "erpatos" meaning "hopping" or "jumping" and "geene" meaning "young one". The genus is characterized by its fossilized wings and other remains found in amber deposits, dating back to the Eocene epoch.

The classification of Erpatogeene is currently not well resolved, and it is considered a "mummy fungus" due to its unclear relationship to other families within the order Lepidoptera. Further study is needed to determine its position within the taxonomic hierarchy.

The fossilized specimens of Erpatogeene have been found primarily in Baltic amber deposits, a type of organic fossil that forms in the presence of oxygen and can preserve delicate biological structures.
