Eroosioilmiöt refer to the phenomena of erosion, a natural process by which soil and rock are worn away and transported by natural forces such as wind or water. These processes are fundamental to shaping the Earth's surface and are influenced by various factors including climate, topography, soil type, and vegetation cover.

Water erosion is a primary contributor to erosion. It can manifest as splash erosion, where raindrops dislodge soil particles, sheet erosion, which involves the removal of a thin, uniform layer of soil, rill erosion, characterized by small channels formed by concentrated water flow, and gully erosion, where larger, deeper channels are created. Coastal erosion, driven by wave action, tides, and currents, also significantly alters shorelines.

Wind erosion is particularly prevalent in arid and semi-arid regions or areas with sparse vegetation. It involves the detachment and transport of soil particles by wind. This can lead to desertification and the formation of sand dunes.

Glacial erosion occurs through the movement of glaciers, which can scour the underlying bedrock, carve out valleys, and transport large amounts of debris. Mass wasting, or mass movement, encompasses the downslope movement of soil and rock under the influence of gravity. This includes landslides, rockfalls, and mudflows.

The rate of erosion can be accelerated by human activities such as deforestation, unsustainable agricultural practices, and urbanization. Understanding eroosioilmiöt is crucial for managing land resources, preventing soil degradation, and mitigating environmental impacts.
