Erimerkkinen

Erimerkkinen is a Finnish mathematical term used to describe quantities or terms that have different signs, typically one positive and one negative. The term is common in arithmetic, algebra, and introductory mathematics to discuss how opposite signs interact in operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

In practice, two numbers that are erimerkkisiä—for example 7 and -4—produce results according to the rules of signed arithmetic.
