Another example is the term "solar eclipse," which is actually a misnomer because the Sun is not being eclipsed by the Moon; instead, the Moon is passing between the Earth and the Sun, casting a shadow on the Earth.

Misnomers can also arise from cultural or linguistic differences. For instance, the term "pajamas" is a misnomer because the garment was originally worn by men and was named after the Persian word for "pajjama," meaning "trousers." Today, the term is used to describe both men's and women's sleepwear.

Despite their inaccuracy, misnomers often persist because they are deeply ingrained in language and culture.
