Eormanric

Eormanric was a semi-legendary king of the Jutes, a Germanic tribe, who ruled over Kent in the early 6th century. His reign is primarily documented in the *Anglo-Saxon Chronicle* and the works of the Venerable Bede, though details about his life are sparse and often contradictory.

Eormanric is traditionally believed to have succeeded his father, Hengest, as king of Kent, though some accounts suggest he may have shared the throne with his brother, Octa. His reign is notable for its association with the conversion of the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity. According to Bede, Eormanric was a pagan king who resisted the spread of Christianity, even persecuting early Christian missionaries. His opposition to the faith is said to have contributed to the eventual conversion of his successor, Eormenric, under the influence of St. Augustine of Canterbury.
