Enzymchromogenen
Enzymchromogenen are chromogenic substrates used in microbiology that release a colored product when cleaved by a specific enzyme. They function as enzymatic indicators: the substrate is typically colorless or faintly colored until the target enzyme acts on it, at which point a visible dye or pigment is freed. This enables rapid visualization of enzyme activity in colonies or in the surrounding medium, supporting presumptive identification of microorganisms.
