Entiteetide

Entiteetide is an Estonian grammatical form used to express “of the entities” and is the genitive plural of entiteet, a loanword for “entity” that is used in technical domains. The base entiteet is a loanword adopted from French entité, via English entity, and has become common in Estonian discourse on information technology, data modeling, and related fields.

In practical use, entiteetide combines with other nouns to describe properties, relationships, or classifications pertaining to multiple entities. For example, entiteetide omadused means the properties of the entities, entiteetide seosed refers to the relationships of the entities, and entiteetide kirjeldused denotes descriptions of the entities. The form is employed wherever a statement concerns several entities collectively, rather than a single one.

Context and scope: In database design, ontology work, and knowledge graphs discussed in Estonian, entiteet refers to an individual data unit or real-world object of interest, while entiteetide is used when talking about more than one such unit. As a grammatical form, entiteetide does not introduce a separate semantic category beyond its role in indicating possession or relation to multiple entities; its meaning derives from the surrounding nouns and verbs in the sentence.
