Entanglementbreaking

Entanglementbreaking refers to any physical process that disrupts or destroys quantum entanglement between two or more quantum systems. Entanglement is a phenomenon where quantum particles become linked in such a way that their fates are correlated, regardless of the distance separating them. Measuring a property of one entangled particle instantaneously influences the corresponding property of the other(s).

Entanglementbreaking can occur through various interactions with the environment, a process known as decoherence. When entangled particles interact with other particles, photons, or even stray electromagnetic fields, this interaction can effectively "measure" the state of the entangled system, collapsing its superposition and thus breaking the delicate correlation. Thermal fluctuations are a common source of decoherence, especially at higher temperatures.

Specific operations can also be designed to deliberately break entanglement. For example, performing a measurement on one of the entangled particles in a way that is not correlated with the entanglement itself will typically destroy the entanglement with the other particle(s). The fragility of entanglement means that maintaining it is a significant challenge in quantum information processing, such as in the development of quantum computers and quantum communication networks. Protecting entangled states from environmental noise and unwanted interactions is crucial for harnessing their power.
