Ensileras
Ensileras are facilities or structures used to store forage crops to produce silage through lactic acid fermentation. The term derives from ensilar, to silage, and encompasses several storage systems that create anaerobic conditions necessary for fermentation. Common types include bunker silos with earth or concrete walls, tower silos which are vertical cylinders made of concrete or metal, and bag silos, which use large plastic bags to contain the forage.
The primary purpose of ensileras is to preserve high-moisture forage for ruminant feeding. Forage is chopped,
Silo design varies by type but shares key principles: effective sealing, drainage to prevent water accumulation,
Ensileras extend the available feed by preserving forage for months, reduce seasonal waste, and can improve
