Enimmäistyöaika

Enimmäistyöaika refers to the maximum legal working hours allowed within a specific period in Finnish labor law. This concept is primarily regulated by the Työturvallisuuslaki (Occupational Safety and Health Act) and the Työaikalaki (Working Time Act). The general principle is to protect workers from excessive working hours that could pose risks to their health and safety.

The standard daily maximum working time is typically eight hours, and the weekly maximum is 40 hours. However, these can be extended under certain circumstances, such as through collective agreements or when dealing with irregular working time arrangements. Overtime hours are also subject to limits, and there are specific rules regarding rest periods between working days and weeks to ensure adequate recovery.

These regulations aim to balance the needs of employers for operational flexibility with the fundamental right of employees to a safe and healthy working environment. Employers are obligated to monitor and ensure that these maximum working time limits are not exceeded.
