Energiayksiköllä refers to the units of measurement used to quantify energy. The most commonly used units of energy include the joule, the kilowatt-hour, and the British thermal unit.

The joule (J) is the standard unit of energy in the International System of Units (SI). It is defined as the amount of energy transferred to an object when a force of one newton acts on that object in the direction of the force's motion through a distance of one meter. One joule is equal to one watt-second, meaning that one joule is the energy dissipated as heat when an electric current of one ampere passes through a resistance of one ohm for one second.

The kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a unit of energy commonly used in billing for electricity. It is equal to 3,600,000 joules or one kilowatt of power sustained for one hour. The kilowatt-hour is widely used because it is a convenient unit for expressing the amount of electrical energy consumed in homes and businesses.

The British thermal unit (BTU) is another unit of energy, commonly used in the United States. One BTU is the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit. There are different types of BTUs, including the International Table (IT) BTU and the thermochemical (therm) BTU. The IT BTU is equal to approximately 1,055 joules, while the therm BTU is equal to approximately 1,054.35 joules.

Understanding energy units is crucial for various applications, including calculating energy efficiency, designing energy systems, and managing energy resources. Different industries may use specific energy units based on their requirements and conventions. For example, the oil and gas industry often uses the BTU, while the electrical industry commonly uses the kilowatt-hour.
