Energiaegységek are units used to measure energy. The most common unit of energy is the joule (J), defined as the energy transferred when a force of one newton acts on an object over a distance of one meter. In everyday life, energy is often discussed in terms of kilowatt-hours (kWh), particularly for electricity consumption. One kilowatt-hour is equivalent to the energy consumed by a 1-kilowatt appliance running for one hour.

Other energy units include the calorie (cal), which is approximately the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celsius. The food calorie, often capitalized as Calorie (kcal), is equal to 1000 scientific calories and is used to measure the energy content of food. The British Thermal Unit (BTU) is another unit of energy, commonly used in some countries for measuring heating and cooling capacity.

In the context of atomic and nuclear physics, the electronvolt (eV) is frequently used. One electronvolt is the amount of kinetic energy gained by a single electron when it is accelerated from rest through an electric potential difference of one volt. Larger units like the megaelectronvolt (MeV) and gigaelectronvolt (GeV) are also employed in particle physics. Understanding different energy units is crucial for accurate calculations and comparisons across various scientific and practical applications.
