Endocervikale

Endocervikale refers to the endocervix, which is the inner part of the cervix. The cervix is the lower, narrow part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. The endocervix is lined with glandular cells that produce mucus. This mucus plays a role in protecting the uterus from infection and in fertility, changing its consistency throughout the menstrual cycle.

The endocervix is a common site for certain gynecological conditions. For example, abnormal cells in the endocervix can be detected through a Pap smear and may indicate precancerous changes or cervical cancer. Endocervical polyps, which are non-cancerous growths, can also develop in this area, sometimes causing abnormal bleeding.

Medical procedures related to the endocervix include colposcopy, a procedure where the cervix is examined with a magnifying instrument, and endocervical curettage, where a small instrument is used to scrape tissue from the endocervical canal. These procedures are often performed to investigate abnormal Pap smear results or to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the endocervix.
